Summer Camp Games

Explore. Connect. Engage! Nature Camp will foster a love and respect for nature through outdoor activities, wildlife encounters, habitat explorations and much more. Each day of Nature Camp will provide a schedule filled with creative crafts, experiments, outdoor journaling activities, active team games, and plenty of fun nature hikes! Camps are also held in a safe environment with qualified and enthusiastic Naturalist staff.


Come out and play in the great outdoors during this fun-filled week of Camp! Camp runs from 9 am – 12 pm, Monday – Friday. This camp is designed for first-time campers. This year, we will explore parts of habitats through hands-on activities, games, educational programs, live animals, and more! Explorers will receive stickers for their “Explorer Camp Wheel” for each day they attend.

Want to learn how to become an adventurer? For 2019, this full-day camp (6 hours) is Monday – Friday and will include adventures within animal habitats! We will explore the different parts of a habitat and how animals use a habitat. This will all be done through hands-on activities, hiking, educational programs, and more! Adventurers is a great way to meet new friends and earn adventurer knowledge!

Summer Camp, Vermilion River Vermilion River Reservation

Join us for a great week full of adventures! Meet at the Vermilion River Reservation’s Carriage Barn each day. Some days will include bus trips from the Vermilion River Reservation to other adventure destinations throughout Lorain County. Activities will include archery, arts and crafts, hiking, river activities, geocaching, kayaking, scavenger hunts, survival skills, and so much more!

Survivor Camp


July 29 - August 2

Vermilion River Reservation;
Henry's Barn at the North Star Preserve & French Creek Nature Center
Kids aged 12 - 14 years
$160 per person

Youth ages 12-14 will be able to experience a NEW Camp! This adventure themed Camp is geared for older ages, and will develop outdoor skills. Park meeting locations will vary throughout the week (please check schedule below). Skills will include map and compass, nature crafts, shelter building, kayaking, water safety, fire building skills, outdoor survival tools safety (sharp bladed objects), and more. Skills learned Monday through Thursday will be used for a final survival challenge on Friday!

Paddling Camp


July 1st & 2nd

Various Lorain County Metro Parks locations
Kids aged 10 - 15 years
$70 per person

This 2-day camp is an introduction of the basics of kayaking and canoeing to get children started out on the water. Equipped with an ACA Smart Start program and rescue practice, children will the get to enhance their skills with games, activities, and excursions on local waterways. Daily location will vary. Pre-registration is required and includes both days of the camp.

Family Camp


Saturday, September 7th

The North Star Reservation - Henry's Barn

$150 per person

Are you looking for a fun opportunity to explore the outdoors without the hassle of planning the activities, or buying all the gear? If so, join us for Adult Summer Camp! This day will be a great combination of outdoor recreation activities as well as opportunities to de-stress.

For the Camp we will meet at North Star Reservation Henry's Barn. Upon arrival, participants will be able to fuel up with a light breakfast buffet. We will also have a few fun activities to get to know one another. From this point, we will journey to the Wellington Reservation via our Lorain County Metro Parks bus. At the Wellington Reservation, participants will have the opportunity to take part in a beginner Canoe class and paddle around the reservoir.

After our adventure at the Wellington Reservation, we will make the return trip to Henry's Barn for lunch (provided). Post lunch, enjoy some other activities! To wrap up the activity schedule, we will have a craft, complete with appetizers and adult beverages (2 drink tickets per person) ID required. At the end of the Camp we will have a photo presentation of the day's adventures, and time to enjoy the Barn's back patio.

Sports Camp is designed for boys and girls. The camp will include fundamental instruction and game play experience in traditional and non-traditional sporting activities including; fitness, team sports, individual sports, and water sports.

Family Camp

Kids aged 6 - 12 years old (accompanied by an adult)

Pre-Register by June 14th!

This 7-week-long summer camp is geared for kids ages 6-12, accompanied by an adult. Starting June 25, on Tuesdays you can choose to attend the 10am-Noon OR 1-3pm session. Both sessions offer the same topic and happen rain or shine. Each week we will explore a new topic in science, nature, and recreation, with hands on learning, crafts, and activities. You are more than welcome to bring younger children as long as they do not disrupt the program.

Sandy Ridge Reservation
Kids entering 5th - 8th Grade
$120 per week

This camp is for all levels of fishing experience. It includes lessons in: casting, baiting a hook, knot tying, and catch and release. All that plus new field trips and a fish fry! This camp also includes an entire week of program and take-homes. We’ll even take some time to go hiking and swimming!

Learn about birds, bugs, reptiles and other wildlife. The week’s events include: hikes, critter catching, swimming, awesome field trips, and a Wild World Critter Lunch!

Just like the other Sandy Ridge Reservation camp (Fishing Camp), it includes an entire week of program and take-homes.

Wellington Reservation
Kids aged 12 - 17 years
$35 per person

To start out the camp, we will have a Smartstart Stand-up Paddleboarding Class on the Wellington Lower Reservoir. After completing the class, participants will enjoy a relaxing cookout and other activities. Afterwards we will depart for a paddling trip on the reservoir to enjoy the water and practice our skills.

Family Camp

Amherst HealthPlex, Splash Zone, Lakeview Park, and Lorain Sailing & Yacht Club
Kids aged 12-15 years

**NOTE: This camp requires the completion of an application and essay**

Do you want to learn more about boating while spending time on the water this summer? Take part in this camp and you can learn safe boating skills directly from certified boating instructors and ODNR Division of Water craft and US Coast Guard officers, earn a required state boating certificate, and become a "Captain of Your Own Vessel!"

Commitment to participate in all of the following disciplines is mandatory for all Spirit of America Boating students: Family Camp

  • Classroom instruction, including the Ohio Boating Education Course (OBEC)
  • Pool instruction (drowning prevention & equipment preparedness)
  • Four full days of training on the water in canoes, kayaks, sailboats, motorboats, stand up paddleboards and personal watercraft (jet skis)
  • Graduation ceremony and family boating opportunity
