When people think of maple sugaring, they usually think of the forests of Canada, or states like Vermont and New Hampshire, but usually not Ohio! While the majority of the world’s maple syrup and other maple syrup products like the delicious candies made in the shape of a maple leaf are produced and exported from more northern climates (like Canada and Vermont), in truth the entire Great Lakes region of North America can produce maple syrup. That’s because this area has the right kind of trees (sugar maples with the most amount of sugar in their sap) and the right kind of springtime weather (freezing nights coupled with warm days). This region, including Ohio, is the only region in the world that has the right combination of factors needed for Maple Sugaring. Aren’t we the lucky ones!

To learn more about the unique process of turning sap from Sugar Maple trees into delicious maple syrup, join us at the Carlisle Visitor Center on March 3 or 4 from 11:30-3:30. We will explore the history and science of Maple Sugaring through hands-on activities geared for all ages. Discover the secrets of maple sugaring through a brief indoor lecture, hiking to the sugar bush and collecting sap with a Naturalist, and visiting the Sugar Shack to see the sap being converted into syrup. Train rides through an additional sugar bush may also be available, weather permitting. Below is the schedule of events for each program day.

Schedule of Events:

11:30am Sugaring Story Reading followed by Maple Sugaring Video Carlisle Room
11:30am - 3:30pm Sugar Shack Open House Sugar Shack
11:30am - 3:30pm Green Choo Rides through Sugar Bush (weather dependent) Sugar Shack

Theatre has the privilege and the power to reach us exactly where we are in our lives. In hope or hardship, in revelry or wretchedness, our own experiences are reflected in the stories onstage. Seeing the semblance of ourselves in other characters can help us make sense of life’s complexities, finding what we stand for; or sometimes we’re simply reminded what a wonder life is, giving us cause to celebrate. French Creek’s 2017-2018 Season features the fun and the fearless, the playful and the provocative, offering audiences an extraordinary breadth of theatrical performance to enjoy and connect with. Keeping that in mind, we present to you our 2017-2018 French Creek Theatre season. See you at the theatre!

Purchase tickets to any of this season's shows by visiting the French Creek Theatre website or by calling 440-949-5200.
