Every Spring, the Lorain County Metro Parks increases its program offerings, gardens need tended, grass starts to grow, the golf course re-opens and visitation to the park increases. To handle all of this increased activity, seasonal employees are needed. Seasonal applicants must have a valid State of Ohio Driver's license and be 18 years of age or older. PART-TIME EMPLOYMENT

Program Reservationist

Location: Splash Zone

Rate of Pay: $11.67 per hour

Job Description: Performs a variety of clerical and secretarial duties including typing correspondence, and taking reservations. Collecting money, daily revenue balancing, greeting visitors, answering phones, and maintaining files, records and reports. Performs a wide range of program and staff scheduling, along with informational and preparatory support for programming.

Minimum Qualifications: Completion of secondary education; some college work preferred in the field of administrative support, public relations, customer service, data entry, point-of-sale accounting, or equivalent. Minimum of two years work experience in the prior mentioned field. Strong clerical, customer service, reservation-taking, and organiza-tional skills necessary. Experience in collection of money, balancing, scheduling and public service preferred.

Must possess a valid Ohio driver’s license and undergo background check. Must obtain CPR certification within two months of hire. Lorain County Metro Park District policy prohibits hiring new employees who use tobacco.

Food Service

Location: Orchid Café - Miller Nature Preserve

Rate of Pay: $8.15 per hour

Dates: Memorial Day - Labor Day

Hours: Up to 20 hours per week - Tuesdays through Saturdays

Job Summary: The Food Service position will assist with food prep and service at The Orchid Café, located at Miller Nature Preserve. Menu includes soups, sandwiches and salads. Duties also cash handling, answering phones, cleanup and general customer service. Applicants must be 21 years of age or older and have excellent organizational and communication skills. Lorain County Metro Parks policy prohibits the hiring of new employees who use tobacco.

Water Safety Instructor

Location: Amherst HealthPlex

Rate of Pay: $9.50 per hour

Job Summary: Under the general direction of the Facility Coordinator, the Water Safety Instructor is responsible for the implementation of the American Red Cross Learn to Swim Programs. This is a part time position.

Specific Job Duties:
  • Ensures the safety of their students while teaching all levels of the American Red Cross learn to swim programs
  • Maintains open communication between parents and students
  • Successfully fills out all paper work associated with the learn to swim program
  • Attends in-services as required instructs with maturity, fairness, consistent, positive and corrective feedback
  • Put away all equipment used in class
Job Requirements:
  • Current certification with the American Red Cross in Water Safety Instruction
  • Current lifeguard certification desirable

Looking for Following Days: Tuesday/Thursday evenings, Saturday mornings, Sunday afternoons

SEASONAL EMPLOYMENT

Children's Garden Attendant

Location: Schoepfle Garden

Rate of Pay: Starting at $8.60 per hour, based on experience, part-time

Job Summary:Under the general direction of the Senior Naturalist, the Children’s Garden Attendant will supervise public activities in the children’s garden including operating the carousel, performing light grounds maintenance and gardening, assisting with or leading public and requested programming, assisting in general operation of Schoepfle Garden. Temporary position.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Available weekends and summer months
  • Early and Elementary Education majors and teachers encouraged to apply
  • Fulfill all duties of the position including background check

Seasonal Park Aide

Location: Schoepfle Garden

Rate of Pay: $8.60 per hour. This is a seasonal opportunity that will entail approximately 20 – 39 hours per week. Start date is flexible throughout the year, hours available primarily from March to November.

Responsibilities: Under the direction of the senior staff, seasonal workers will assist in grounds maintenance, care and the installation of new plant collections at our 70-acre botanical garden/arboretum, visitor services and duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be 18 years old
  • Available for some evenings, weekends throughout the year
  • Capable to fulfill all duties of the position including background check

Lifeguards

Splash Zone Aquatic Center and Amherst HealthPlex are always looking for responsible individuals with good communication and swimming skills to be a lifeguard. Must have American Red Cross Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Certifications. In the summer months we also look for lifeguards for Lakeview Beach. In addition to the certifications mentioned above, lifeguards at Lakeview Beach must complete Waterfront Lifeguard certification upon hiring.

Park Aide

The Park Aides perform a wide variety of semi-skilled and unskilled labor jobs in maintaining and improving Park District resources, including but not limited to: Clean park facilities; routine landscaping tasks (mowing, pruning, weeding, mulching, watering, etc.); litter and trash pick-up; operate vehicles and equipment; repair building equipment, painting and staining.  Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs and participate in park safety programs as well as adhere to Park District policies and standards.

Positions are available at most metro parks including Black River Reservation, Carlisle Reservation, Columbia Reservation, Lakeview Park, Sandy Ridge Reservation, Schoepfle Garden, Miller Nature Preserve, Wellington Reservation, French Creek Reservation, North Coast Inland Trail, Vermilion River Reservation and the Fleet operations. Golf Aide

The Golf Aides maintains golf course equipment and the grounds of the Forest Hills Golf Course.  Performs mainly routine tasks in maintenance and landscaping including but not limited to: cleans park facilities, performs routine landscaping tasks, assist in daily course set-up.  Previous knowledge of golf course equipment and duties preferred.  Must be able to lift up to 80 pounds and participate in park safety programs as well as adhere to Park District policies and standards.
